As we clean up from Hurricane Sandy’s historic mess, it’s easy to forget that there’s a presidential election on Tuesday. Resilient New Yorkers will go to the polls by the millions to exercise their right to vote.

The state Board of Elections has extended the absentee ballot deadline to allow people displaced by the storm to vote. Also, more than 100 polling places are located in storm-affected areas, and voters may need some help navigating these changes.

That’s why the NYCLU has launched Let Me Vote — an online voting rights guide that provides all the information you need to cast your ballot on Election Day.

The guide will arm you with all of the information you need to overcome any obstacles at the polls.

Anyone denied the right to vote should call our national voter protection hotline at 1-866-OUR-VOTE or 1-888-VE-Y-VOTA to contact an attorney who can help them find a solution. We will also send teams of volunteers to targeted polling places across the state to assist voters who encounter obstacles.

There’s much more at stake next Tuesday than who occupies the White House. New Yorkers also will decide who represents them in Congress and the State Legislature. It’s critical that you exercise your right to vote. We will help do just that with confidence and without fear of intimidation.

To access the guide, please visit www.nyclu.org/vote. Contact us at vote@nyclu.org with any voting-related questions.

IMPORTANT:

Share this with everyone you know everywhere, in particular in all the battleground states.

Print this out and carry it with you when you go to vote.

Finally, get there early and help your family, friends and neighbors vote.

Obama is doing his part. Now let’s do ours.

Dear friends,

As you know Obama is doing his duty dealing with Sandy. In the meantime he is not campaigning. Let’s help fill in the gap by showing our support and making sure the vote gets out for him.

Show your support by changing your facebook profile picture now using the attached, from now until the election results are in. And get everyone you know to do the same.

It’s a small but powerful demonstration of support using the world’s largest social network. Let’s show Obama and the world that we have his back in a most powerful and visual way.

And so that he can keep the focus on where it belongs right now.

Thank you.
