Leon Ellis, who opened the Moca Lounge in 2003 at 119th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard had the vision to see the potential for his business and said in the piece: “people thought I lost my mind.”  Well he was in fact on the right track, and since then he has opened the restaurant Chocolat, and Harlem Underground clothing boutique on Frederick Douglass Blvd.

In the NY Times article, writer KIA GREGORY also spotlights other popular joints found on FDB such as Bier International and Frederick Cafe, owned by partners Ousmane Keita and Chris Pollok, as well as one of our favorites Melba’s Restaurant, owned by Melba Wilson.
