50th Annual Loiza Festival in El Barrio July 28 – July 30

The Loíza Festival in El Barrio

Presented By Los Hermanos Fraternos De Loiza & Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute, the 50TH ANNUAL FESTIVAL SANTIAGO APÓSTOL DE LOÍZA EN EL BARRIO will be held at East 109th Street Between 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue.

Festival Santiago Apóstol De Loiza En El Barrio, fondly known as the Loiza Festival in El Barrio, celebrates the African influence of Loiza, Puerto Rico in New York City’s East Harlem neighborhood. Looking to pay homage to the traditions of the homeland left behind, the Perez family from Loiza Aldea founded the community-based organization Los Hermanos Fraternos de Loiza and the festival itself. This year, the Loiza Festival celebrates its 50th anniversary with a special street naming in honor of one of its fierce founders–Aida Perez. Festival goers will delight in traditional food and craft vendors, live performances of Bomba, Plena + Salsa, a host of kids activities and other surprises. With an intergenerational team of organizers, the annual summer event attracts a wide range of artists, vendors, and community leaders. Join us to experience one of the few remaining Puerto Rican cultural festivals in NYC. Have a blast creating child-friendly arts and crafts, listening and dancing to live beats, with an alcapurria or a bacalaito in hand.
