Harlem Havana Music and Cultural Festival August 15 – 21 – Full schedule

It’s time for the 1st Harlem Havana Music & Cultural Festival, which is set to bring Cuban artists to Harlem, New York City in August for a week of live music, visual arts, dance, film, food and more during HarlemWeek festivities.

The Harlem Havana Music and Cultural Festival (August 15 – 21) was created to celebrate the artistic connection between Harlem and Havana, and now that relations between the U.S. and Cuba have been re-established for the first time since they were suspended in the 1960s, it is time to get the party started in Harlem.

Cuban musicians, visual artists, dancers, filmmakers, chefs and educators will be highlighted during this years Harlem Week from Aug. 15-21. They include saxophonist César López and his Habana Ensemble, and pianist Jorge Luis Pacheco, a young lion who was selected by Wynton Marsalis to perform with the Jazz at Lincoln Center orchestra during the New York big band’s trip to Havana in 2010.

Next year, some American artists with Harlem connections, including Smokey Robinson will return the favor and travel to Havana, Cuba in a similar effort of cultural exchange in February 2017.
