SWEET SPOT FESTIVAL 2014 Events in Harlem


When Spring time hits, you know it’s almost time for SWEET SPOT FESTIVAL events to kick-off.  For 2014, the opening celebration of this FREE family friendly summer series will take place during Memorial Day weekend on Sunday, May 25th (2-9pm) at the West Harlem Pier Park.  The Sweet Spot outdoor dance party and artisan market is an exciting mix of music, art, and culture, and the SWEET SPOT pop-up marketplace is one of the highlights of this festival with a variety of food, arts, craft, jewelry, unique vintage vendors, artisans and designers on hand. This year, the Sweet Spot Festival continues its partnership with Giant Step and Riverside Parks Summer on the Hudson event series. Come on out!

Between the months of May and August, The SWEET SPOT stage will present an eclectic range of musicians and themed dance parties featuring a rotation of New York’s finest DJ talent. Including the Soul Summit Music crew, and Herbert Holler of the Freedom Party, the longest running dance party in NYC History. The Rice and Peas sound system will host the Jamaican Indepen- Dance day Cooler Fete, Max Glazer, DJ Gravy and Micro Don will be celebrating Federation Sounds 15th anniversary. Watch out for guest performances and more talent announcements throughout the season.

In addition, SWEET SPOT will showcase select visual artists installations, host kids art activities, on site FREE fitness workshops and a market place with an array of unique vendors. The market place offers local businesses and the artisan community a much-needed opportunity to display and make their works available to one of the most exclusive and connected communities in the world.

Additional talent:

DJ MoMA – sets consist of an agile blend of funk, soul, r&b, disco, house, hip-hop, reggae, world music and underground dance grooves all mixed with an equal share of classic jams, rare gems and modern day bangers. His current residencies – Thursday nights at Viktor & Spoils, Friday nights at Red Rooster (Marcus Samuelsson’s Harlem hotspot) and a monthly Saturday daytime brunch party dubbed ‘Everyday People’ – have solidified his status as a local crowd favorite as well as the go-to guy for A-list celebrities to dance night away.

Jasmine Solano & MeLo-X { Electric Punanny} – Jasmine Solano and MeLo-X, had the idea of pooling together their respective loves of reggae, hip-hop, and electronic music to form what would be titled Electric Punanny. What started out as a series of parties had come to represent a cross section of NYC’s downtown youth, indie, & street cultures, as well as a venue where creativity and true art in music would coalesce. Followers of Electric Punanny have been treated over the years, to guest DJ’s and performers, including Chuck Inglish (The Cool Kids), Theophilus London, Diplo, Maluca, Joell Ortiz, Kid Cudi, Murs, Ninja-Sonik and D-Nice. Electric Punanny has traveled to other cities in the US and abroad, making appearances at Denver’s Beauty Bar, Chez Moune in Paris and Fortune Sound Club in Vancouver, Canada.

Kervyn Mark- DJ Kervyn Mark is one of the busiest DJ on the global dance music scene in New York. During his 3 decades of spinning Kervyn has played exclusive sets, of soulful house, hip-hop, r&b, reggae, jazz, Latin freestyle and other forms of dance music.He is part of the multi-media arts collective, The Melting Pot NYC and has spinned alongside deep house legends, Louie Vega, Kevin Hedge and Jellybean Benitez to name a few.
