Get a haircut and register to vote – registration deadline 10/12

More than 40 neighborhood barbershops have banded together to register young adults to vote and re-elect Barack Obama in November as part of a grass-roots campaign called “Barbers for Obama.”

The campaign was organized by Colin Rodney , co-owner of Dons and Divas Salon on Nostrand Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesan. Since forming “Barbers for Obama” earlier this month, Rodney has registered 20 young adults in his shop to vote for Obama and hopes to sign up hundreds more around the city by the October 12 deadline.

In Harlem, Rodney has signed up more than a dozen barbers who are displaying the signs in their storefronts.

“Sometimes, in the black community, you see your barber more than your father,” said Harlem’s Levels Barbershop co-owner Denorval Parks, 40, who has registered more than 20 young voters. “Barbers influence people.”
