New Technology Being Used To Create New Media About Harlem
A number of new technologies exist to help aspiring and accomplished artists and business-people in Harlem fund innovative projects.
Once such social funding technology is called IndiGoGo. IndiGoGo is a platform for anyone with a passion to “raise more money, from more people, fast”. In their own words, it’s all about how to “turn your passion into a funding campaign, promote your idea, engage a fan base, and get funded. We provide all the tools you need to build a campaign and share it with the world.” There are a number of Harlem-based projects on IndiGoGo.
Accomplished Harlem-born and raised artist John O. Nelson is using indigo to fund several web-based series called Harlem River Drive, Our Girl Kenny, and Everybody Knows John O.
See below for a video describing this and his other projects and how you can help fund them.
John O. was signed to Mercury Records as Jay B.U.M. where he released his single “The Underground” and toured with the likes of Black Sheep and Ed O.G. and the Bulldogs. He later moved to L.A. and appeared on shows like NY Undercover, The Practice, Ally McBeal and CSI NY. He released two mixtapes “The John O. Album” and “226 W.144th St.” named after the building and street he grew up on. He also co-founded a group called “Tha Gecko Brothas” and released two albums.
